Google Creating an Intelligence Plane with Gemini Updates
Google has updated the #Gemini API to:
✅ Increased the inline file size limit from 20 MB to 100 MB
✅ Support direct file input from Google Cloud Storage or any HTTP/Signed URL (letting the API fetch data from external storage without having to re-upload it.)
Previously, developers had to upload files into temporary storage, creating friction for production applications. This new input methods now removes that bottleneck.
This opens up some interesting Enterprise #AIUseCases:
📌Industries with strict data governance compliance (finance, healthcare etc):
💠 Files remain in enterprise storage under corporate control.
💠 The Gemini API fetches them securely, minimizing replication risk / storage sprawl.
⚡ Impact:
Lowers compliance risk compared to repeatedly storing sensitive files in ephemeral API buckets.
📌 Scalable RAG & Knowledge Indexing:
💠 Enterprises can register entire datasets stored on their cloud buckets.
💠 RAG systems can draw from large sources without duplicative upload steps i.e. an internal knowledge base can be pulled in real time from S3 or Azure Blob via signed URLs.
⚡Impact:
This enables zero-copy, cloud-native #RAG pipelines where enterprise knowledge bases are indexed and queried directly from the authoritative storage. It eliminates data duplication, reduces compliance and security exposure, lowers storage and ETL costs, and allows models to reason over live, continuously updated content rather than stale snapshots.
📌 Operational Video Intelligence:
💠 Enterprises store millions of short operational videos (security clips, warehouse events, retail incidents, QA footage) in cloud buckets, typically 5–80 MB per clip.
💠 Using signed URLs or GCS paths, Gemini can ingest a video clip together with related logs or reports and reason across visual, temporal, and textual data in a single request.
⚡Impact:
This enables AI-powered investigation and quality monitoring where Gemini acts as a cloud-based video analyst, turning short operational clips into searchable, explainable, and auditable business intelligence (without copying data out of governed storage).
📌 AEC Progress & Compliance Analysis
💠 #AEC firms store thousands of site photos, drone clips, inspection videos, and #BIM snapshots in cloud buckets, typically as short files under 100 MB.
💠 Gemini can ingest these along with schedules, drawings, and inspection reports to compare what was built vs. what was planned.
⚡Impact:
This enables AI-driven project oversight that automatically flags delays, safety issues, and spec deviations, turning unstructured site media into actionable, contract-grade project intelligence, again without moving data out of enterprise storage.
In effect, Google is turning Gemini from just a model, into an intelligence plane running directly on the enterprise cloud.
